Christmas tree fasteners are used to permanently attach plastic vapor barrier to the foundation walls of the crawl space. These plastic retainer clips got their start in the automotive industry and was quickly adopted by crawl space companies and DIYers to make crawl space vapor barrier installation simple and effective.
We recommend using our 2" Butyl Tape in conjunction with the Christmas tree fasteners to secure the vapor barrier to the foundation wall.

Work great, Consider Force Assisted Fasteners too
These hold very well when done right!!! However it really requires 2 people whenever possible. To drill, hold, line up and tap in is tough. The Hilti method is only a trigger pull and well worth the cost if you are doing anymore than 70, have a tight space, or working alone. A ramset as Michael says in his videos is also a very cost effective alternate to Hilti for a DIY crawlspace. Great customer service from Crawlspace Ninja and very honest!

The Key to the "Hold"
These are part 2 of the wall covering process. The butyl tape holds the plastic firmly in place, allowing you to drill your pilot hole for these fasteners. I found that I could press these into the pilot holes by pushing with the space between the bottom of my thumb and the heel of my hand. Then, I could often push the fastener the rest of the way end using the heel of the hand. I did my entire 750 sq ft crawl space by myself. There were a few times that the fasteners would bend (probably due to a pilot hole not drilled deep enough), but not a single fastener broke.

Fasteners
Easy to use and worked fantastic!

Christmas Tree Fasteners worked great with Foam board!
Used Christmas tree fasteners in concrete block for the piers, and in the top of the 2" foam boards that were tapcon-ed to the wall. This seemed better than anchoring the fasteners to the concrete block, as near the top of the foam board, the plastic will pull at a 45 deg angle, whereas in the top of the foam board, the pull is at a direct perpendicular angle. Plus, you can simply press the Christmas Tree Fasteners in by hand through the sheet plastic into the foam board, and they are not coming out without a struggle!

Christmas Tree Fasteners
They work really well on both Brick and Spray Foam walls

Christmas tree fasteners
I installed mine through the plastic and butyl tape into 2”foam board and they hold tremendously!

Worked perfectly
I was worried these wouldn't work in my old crawlspace walls ... no need to worry. They are holding perfectly in less-than-ideal concrete! Having small hands, I used a rubber mallet to tap them in (GENTLY!!).

Great
Great and easy to use. I also made a small flap at the ends and was able to double the holding power to the vaper barrier. Only four stars because i didn't see a fastener available that could hold my foam board. ( not long enough)
